Here’s the deal when the hubby’s away…. it’s all on me.
The dishes, tidying up, cooking meals, appointments, errands, grocery store, walks, play dates, entertaining kids…. I’m like a one-woman circus and there is no end to the day some days. Each day is a rigorous test of my endurance and patience that is sprinkled with giggles, tears and (hopefully) a few Zzzz’s. I usually have to determine if I’m going to be staying up late to get dishes done, work on the blog, clean stuff or whatever needs doing or if it would be more prudent to wake up hours earlier to do the same things.
Yesterday, I couldn’t sleep anyways so I woke up early – hours earlier than usual. This was actually not too bad since it would mean that I could get A LOT done right? Apparently, the smell of fresh cooked French applesauce would awaken the chitlins a tad earlier than usual…
Once they saw what I was making (Compote de Pommes or French for applesauce), they immediately started bouncing around the kitchen demanding a bowl of applesauce. So for every meal, we encourage them to get their own silverware and set their place (which is really just good practice for them but also distracts them long enough for us to finish plating their meal) and being early in the morning with a nice cozy fire gently warming the living room, they set out a picnic instead. The only edible food being the applesauce they shoveled in tirelessly until it was all gone!
Our applesauce was a pear-apple blend. I just happened to have a couple of each in the fridge that I didn’t have other plans for, so I feel as if it went to good use! The girls loved it and this is certainly something I will be making again and again – maybe with a touch of cinnamon next time!
